Welcome to Gavel ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application Gavel (the "App").
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use the App.
02Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide to Us
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and password (hashed and encrypted). For children under 13, a parent/guardian's email is used.
- Profile Information: You may provide optional information such as an avatar photo, age, and household information. Age is required to determine Judge eligibility.
- Task Data: Information about tasks you create, complete, or participate in, including photos submitted as proof of completion.
- Household Data: Information about your household, including member names, household rules, and shared content.
- Payment Information: If you subscribe to Premium, payment information is processed through third-party payment processors (Apple App Store, Google Play Store). We do not store your full payment card details. Note: Premium subscriptions must be purchased by a parent/guardian for accounts of children under 13.
2.2 Information Automatically Collected
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information.
- Usage Data: How you interact with the App, including features used, time spent, and actions taken.
- Log Data: IP address, browser type, access times, and pages viewed.
- Location Data: We do not collect precise location data. We may collect general location information based on your IP address for security purposes.
2.3 Information from Third Parties
- Authentication: We use Supabase for authentication, which may collect authentication-related information.
- Analytics: We may use analytics services to understand how the App is used (aggregated and anonymized data only).

- Information you share within the App (tasks, points, achievements) is visible to other members of your household.
- Household members can see your display name, avatar, points, streaks, and task completion status.

- Supabase: Hosts our database and provides authentication services.
- Payment Processors: Apple App Store and Google Play Store process subscription payments.
- Analytics Providers: Help us understand app usage (data is aggregated and anonymized).

We may disclose your information if required by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
4.4 Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

5.1 Data Storage
- Your data is stored securely using Supabase, which uses industry-standard security measures.

- We use Row Level Security (RLS) to ensure users can only access their own household data.

5.3 Data Retention

You can access and update your account information through the App settings.
6.2 Deletion
You can delete your account at any time through the App settings. For accounts of children under 13, parents/guardians can request account deletion by contacting us. This will:
- Delete your personal information
- Remove you from your household
- Delete your tasks, points, and achievements (unless required by law to retain)
For Children Under 13: Parents/guardians must contact us at support@playgavel.com to delete their child's account. We will verify parental identity before processing the deletion.
6.3 Data Portability
You can request a copy of your data by contacting us at support@playgavel.com.
6.4 Opt-Out
- You can opt out of push notifications through your device settings.
- You can opt out of analytics by contacting us.
6.5 California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

07Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
7.1 Children Under 13
Gavel welcomes users of all ages, including children under 13. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws.
- Children under 13 can use Gavel with parental or guardian consent.
- Parents/guardians must create or approve the account for children under 13.
- We collect limited information necessary to provide the App's services (display name, age, household membership, task data).
- We do not collect more information than is reasonably necessary for the App to function.
- Children under 13 cannot serve as Judge (age restriction: 13+ for Judge role).
- Parents/guardians can review, modify, or delete their child's information at any time by contacting us.
Parental Rights
- Parents/guardians can review their child's personal information by contacting us at support@playgavel.com.
- Parents/guardians can refuse to permit further collection or use of their child's information.
- Parents/guardians can request deletion of their child's account and information.
- We will verify parental identity before providing access to or deleting a child's information.

- To prevent children under 13 from being assigned as Judge
- We do not use information from children under 13 for advertising or marketing purposes.
Information Sharing
- Information from children under 13 is only shared within their household (other household members).
- We do not share information from children under 13 with third parties except as necessary to provide the App's services (e.g., Supabase for data storage).
- We do not sell information from children under 13.
7.2 Users Aged 13–17
For users aged 13–17, we recommend parental supervision when using the App. These users can serve as Judge and have full access to all App features.

08International Data Transfers
